What an atmosphere Brett creates!

Brett Wales entertained a completely packed Village Hall in February and some people had travelled far to see him. His programme was so varied that it as almost unbelievable - Slow Boat to China led into Cheek to Cheek and Feelings, which we all enjoyed, ten on to See you in my Dreams in dancing tempo.

El Condor Pasa (Peruvian Pipes) was a wonderful musical experience for us. In Big Band style Exactly like You and Strings of Pearls merged into Yesterday, with Brett's lovely keyboard work - all from his recent CD "One Moment in Time" (the title song was included later in the programme).

In Country & Western style Ring of Fire, Your Cheating Heart and Ghost Riders in the Sky made a lively end to the first half.

Carried away by the balalaika
The easy jazz of Up a Lazy River (Hoagy Carmichael) was a contrast to a Russian medley and the drama of The Volga Boat Song and the balalaika sound of Moscow Nights carried us far away - it was so authentic. A beautiful rendition of The Blue Danube Strauss waltz filled the hall as a complete orchestra would and left everyone cheering.

Brett's versatility showed so well with The Mexican Hat Dance and Rock Around The Clock - and his third encore When Somebody Thinks You're Wonderful would have impressed Fats Waller himself - and we all thought Brett was wonderful - what an atmosphere he creates!

Reported on behalf of Peggy Leak - whom we all missed and wish a speedy recovery from her recent operation.
