Plans
for the Golden Jubilee celebrations are going from strength
to strength. Box Hill is promised a day of fun and entertainment.
If you are not quite up to a Marathon standard how about
a bit of training for the pram race, which will start
the celebrations on Monday 3rd June? The distance from
start to finish, at Smith and Western, to the finishing
line at the Hand-in-Hand is just over a mile and pram
pushers and occupants will be obliged to make a compulsory
pit stop. Get ahead - get a pram!
Now
included in the attractions are are fun things for children
of all ages - a crazy cottage (a bouncy house with several
rooms), a big inflatable slide and a bungee run. Children
are invited to take part in the fancy dress - kings,
queens, soldiers or nurses. A clown will be providing
extra entertainment. A jazz band will be playing during
the afternoon and there will also be a band providing
music in the evening. Ladies and Gents, why not come
along in 50's gear? Ladies dress for a garden party
- it is the Golden Jubilee, just think Buckingham Palace
- and find (or make!) a posh hat. Gents - as spivs or
teddy boys. Prizes for the best outfit! The full programme
for the Jubilee celebrations will be published in the
May issue of BOX HILL NEWS.
Funds
are still coming in - another £104 from the monthly
quiz night raffle at the Hand-in-Hand; the afternoon
and evening WI's joined together for a successful and
sociable ploughman's lunch and raised £150. Ron
Lubbock is organising Junktique on 4th May, at the Village
Hall. And Box Hill Neighbourhood Council be holding
a Race Night at the Hand-in-Hand on 11th may. Tickets
from Daphne Ladell (01737 843644), £8 dinner and
pudding.
We
still need your recollections for our display - something
that was memorable to you over the last 50 years, be
it at the beginning of the Queen's reign or quite recent,
from a personal experience or big event, light-hearted
or serious. Please send your poem, piece of prose or
short anecdote to BOX HILL NEWS, to reach the Editor
by 30th april. Photographs of local events would also
be of interest.
